Five Fun Cardio Workouts to Trim Your Body

31 January 2009 by Admin 28 Comments

We can all probably use a bit more cardio in our life. The problem is that we tend to fall back upon our tried and true cardio methods, and eventually we get a little unmotivated. The key to meeting your weight-loss goals and to keeping your cardio workouts interesting is variety.

Sure, we all know about the solid benefits of walking, running and biking. But, aren’t there some activities that we can get excited about? Okay, maybe not excited, but at least interested in? What follows are five different cardio workouts that are somewhat different than the ones you might be doing these days.

1. Boxing: If you are a little tired of the treadmill and the stationary bike, think about putting on a pair of gloves and stepping into the ring! Boxing provides a fantastic cardio workout and it also helps you with strength training. Whether you do it at your gym under the code-name of cardio-boxing or box-aerobics or you join a real boxing gym to do it, think about taking up this activity. You can burn about 1,000 calories an hour and learn a skill that you can use on the streets.

2. Rock Climbing: If you want to add a challenge to your cardio routine, think about engaging in some rock climbing. When you rock-climb, you burn about 380 calories in 30 minutes. With results like these, it might be worth the time to check into it. Though you will need a lot of mental stamina and some special equipment, this could be a sport you find will step up your cardio workout a notch or two.

3. Cardio Karate: If you want to have some fun, release some aggression and burn calories all at the same time, consider joining a cardio karate (kickboxing) class. Experts say you can burn up to 800 calories per hour while doing cardio karate. The routines are varied and the results are fantastic. Stress reduction is also a huge benefit.

4. Aerobic Dancing: That’s right. Join a dance class and learn how to salsa and cha-cha and shed those extra pounds at the same time. The idea that you can have fun and burn calories may seem foreign to some, but aerobic dancing provides the opportunity for both. There are dance classes for every imaginable style and fitness level, so think about mixing up your cardio routine with this activity.

5. Swimming and Water Aerobics: Taking to the water can be a wonderful way to change up your cardio routine. Swimming is a low-impact aerobic activity and within just a few weeks, you will see changes in your body. Aerobics performed in the pool are also a fantastic way to burn calories and stay fit. The water also provides a stress-reducing benefit that cannot be beaten.

With a little effort and commitment, you can enhance your workout routine by simply adding a new cardio activity to the mix. By doing so, you maximize your fitness potential and keep yourself motivated to continue.

True. Likewise, white bread and refined white sugar are two of the worst things we can be feeding our bodies. The list isn’t small but it surely comprises many white foods. The sight of colorful or colored food feels luscious but here in lies the difference between health and ill health. The essence of this is in avoiding high glycemic index foods. There is more here
