10 Workouts to do While Traveling or in the Hotel
If your career keeps you on the road and you often find yourself in a hotel room unsure of how to fit in a workout, there are some easy workouts you can engage in wherever you may be. Not all hotels have the best fitness center and with just a little pre-planning and some dedication, you can easily find a way to work out on the road.
Here are 10 workouts to do while traveling or in the hotel.
- Jumping jacks: These easy exercises can be a great way to get your blood pumping and burn some calories. You can easily do these in your hotel room. So, plug in your iPod and get busy.
- Walk: If you find yourself in your hotel and you want to get in some cardio without leaving the building, walk the halls of the hotels or walk the stairs. Both of these activities will help you reduce stress and feel better.
- Push-ups: You can do push-ups anywhere you go. Just be sure you breathe properly and perform a sufficient number of reps to help burn those calories. For your viewing pleasure, here is Jennifer Love Hewitt demonstating how to do “girly pushups”
- Abdominal crunches: These exercises can conveniently be performed almost anywhere. Set yourself a goal of three sets of 10 reps and work out those abs
- March in place: After a hard day of meetings, stand in the middle of your hotel room and march in place. Raise your hands up and down as you march. This will increase calorie-burning.
- Squat-thrusts: Stand with your feet side by side. Squat and place your hands on the floor beside your feet. Then, thrust back ward into a push-up position. Jump back to squat position and stand up. These are fun and they really get your heart pumping.
Here’s a tutorial video on performing squat thrusts :
- Wall sit: Place your back against a wall, with your feet approximately two feet from the wall. Slide yourself down the wall until your knees are at about a 90-degree angle. Hold the position and then go back up the wall. Repeat several times.
- One-leg balance: Stand on one leg as long as you are able to and then switch legs. If this is too simple for you, try adding a bit of a squatting motion to the exercise.
- Exercise DVD: Pack your exercise into your suitcase. When you arrive at the hotel, request a DVD player and work out with your favorite trainer.
- Backward stride: Stand with your feet together and push one leg backward in a striding motion. At the same time, raise your arms to be level with your shoulders. With each stride, lower the arms and raise them again. Do several repetitions for best results.
By committing yourself to continuing your fitness routine when you travel and by exhibiting a little initiative, you can find creative ways to work out no matter where you are. The main point is to be willing to try new things so that you don’t fall behind on your fitness goals. Whether you’re in a hotel room or a meeting room, find a way to move your body. Just be sure to also watch what you eat when traveling. All of those trips to the Steak Houses and airport food will catch up with you regardless.
