5 Steps to a 5-Star Body

Instead of anticipating the heat with trepidation, why not take the necessary steps to a 5-star body you will love to flaunt this summer? We have got five steps that will take you from frumpy to fabulous by the time swim suit season rolls around.

• Serious Fat Burning

Before you can tone, you must lose the layer of fat that has been keeping your body nice and warm all winter. The best way to burn fat is through cardiovascular exercise like walking, swimming or cycling. If you prefer, hit the gym for time on the treadmill, elliptical trainer or recumbent bike. Start with 30 minutes a day, five days a week, and stretch it a bit longer if you have more weight to lose.

• Fill the Fridge with Color

To support your fat burning efforts, fill your fridge with foods packed with nutrition rather than calories. Fruits and vegetables will fit the bill, especially when you round out the fare with some whole grain for fiber and lean dairy to meet your protein needs. These are the foods to reach for when the hunger pangs strike, instead of the baked goods loaded with fats and sugar that you indulged in all winter. Make a promise to yourself that you will lay off the bad carbs in favor of a healthy menu.

• Drink Up

Water will do plenty to help create that 5-star body, including flushing out your system, filling your stomach so you eat less and hydrating your skin until it glows. Get your eight to ten glasses a day and your skin will thank you by the time summer rolls around. The fluids will also be essential in keeping your body hydrated as you step up your workout program.

• Tone and Strengthen

While cardio work is burning excess fat, you can add strength training to the mix to whip muscles into shape. For toning, use lower weight amounts and raise the number of repetitions you do. You can work out at home with free weights and a bench or head hit the machines at the gym. Add some crunches and squats to get your abs, buttocks and thighs ready for summer baring outfits. Two to three times a week should produce positive results.

• Pamper your Skin

Once your body is prepared on the inside, it is time for pampering on the outside as well. Give your skin a thorough exfoliating treatment, using a salt or sugar scrub. Begin applying moisturizer nightly to get skin soft and supple before it comes out of hiding for the season. If you want a kiss of color, now is the time to begin using a self tanning cream that will give you a healthy glow after just a few applications. Do not forget to give hands and feet the royal treatment as well, with a coordinating manicure and pedicure.
